According to Le 10Sport, AS Monaco are interested in Spurs’ Mousa Dembele, with the Belgian’s contract expiring in the summer – the Lilywhites should use this to their advantage by moving for Youri Tielemans.
What’s the word?
Well, French publication Le 10Sport has reported that Monaco have enquired as to the Belgian’s situation at White Hart Lane as he falls down the pecking order and sustains a string of injuries this season.
The former Fulham man has made just ten Premier League appearances this season despite being a mainstay in the lineup since his arrival in 2012 and, in November, suffered an ankle injury that will ensure he remains on the sidelines until the new year.
Spurs have been apparently keen to find a long-term replacement for the 31-year-old, whose deal with the North London club runs out at the end of the season, as he is clearly beginning to lose his legs – Mauricio Pochettino and co. are reportedly targeting Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele, but should use Les Monégasques boss Thierry Henry’s interest in Dembele to tempt the talented Tielemans to the club as Ndombele may prove far too pricey.
Eriksen replacement?
Tielemans has been at the Stade Louis II since summer 2017 when he completed a switch from Anderlecht and was billed as one of the top, young European stars. Manchester City narrowly missed out on bringing him to the Premier League as he opted for France instead – Spurs should look to finally bring the 21-year-old across the channel.
The midfielder is renowned for his passing and shooting ability but can chip in on the back foot, too, as he completes 2.1 tackles per game according to WhoScored.
Tielemans has bagged four goals this season and is equally adept with either foot, making him a threat in all areas of the pitch and highly unpredictable – similar to Spurs playmaker Christian Eriksen.
As stated by Pochettino, the Dane’s future at the club is ‘dynamic’ – like Dembele, his contract also runs down in June and there will surely be a host of top sides keen to acquire his services should a new deal fail to be struck – Tielemans could be the player to lessen the blow of losing Dembele and Eriksen in one.
