Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has conceded that he is concerned with Sadio Mane’s latest hamstring problem.
Mane has only just recovered from the hamstring injury that he suffered during the October international break.
The 25-year-old has been sent home early from this month’s international duty, however, after picking up a similar issue during Senegal’s 2-0 win over South Africa on Friday, which helped the African nation book their spot at the 2018 World Cup.
Mane is now set for another spell on the sidelines, and Klopp has admitted that ‘it is a concern’ the attacker has now seemingly suffered a reoccurrence of a previous issue.
Klopp told Liverpool’s official website:
“Specifically on him returning to Melwood early to be with us; obviously it is a concern that the hamstring injury is again on the agenda and it will be critical for us to monitor and manage that in the coming days.
“At this stage we haven’t seen Sadio yet to properly assess the extent, but what is clear is that we will have to stay on top of this for the rest of the week and make sure we are careful in how we look after him.”
Liverpool will return to Premier League action with a home game against Mane’s former club Southampton this weekend.
Mane, who is valued at £45m by transfermarkt.co.uk, has scored three times and provided two assists in six Premier League appearances for the Reds this season.
