Liverpool have put an £87m price tag on their star player Philippe Coutinho after Paris Saint-Germain made their interest known, according to The Mirror.
What’s the word?
It has been relatively quiet on the transfer front with regards to Coutinho after the closing stages of last season were dominated by talk that Barcelona were interested.
Now, The Mirror claims that Paris Saint-Germain have contacted the Reds regarding the Brazilian, and unsurprisingly, the French giants have been knocked back.
The publication states that PSG have been informed that only a bid of around £87m will force Liverpool to consider a deal.
Coutinho has become an integral part of the Reds, and last season he scored 14 goals and produced seven assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.
Can Liverpool afford to lose him?
It would be a hammer blow to the Merseyside outfit if the 25-year-old were to leave this summer.
With just over five weeks to go before the new Premier League season underway, manager Jurgen Klopp needs to ensure that the likes of Coutinho remain in his squad.
Liverpool fell short of a title challenge last season, and they just sneaked into the top four, so for them to improve, they need to build on the squad rather than search for replacements.
In Coutinho’s case, there are not many players available who can replace him, and even if the club received £87m, they are not guaranteed a world-class signing before the window shuts.
With Jordan Henderson struggling with injury woes, Coutinho has become somewhat of a talisman for the Reds, so his absence would result in the loss of more than just a player.
