Colorado Rapids have completed the signing of Steffen, according to . The goalkeeper has signed a three-year deal with the option of another year. The move sees Steffen return to MLS after leaving the Columbus Crew in 2019 for Manchester City.

Steffen never managed to get much of a look in at City and was sent out on loan to Fortuna Dusseldorf and Middlesbrough during his time at the Premier League club. He was linked with a move to Leicester in the summer but a knee injury ensured he stayed at City but was sidelined for the first half of the season. Steffen now moves to Colorado Rapids where he will be the starting goalkeeper and will hope he can impress back in MLS. The move could also resurrect his international hopes after slipping down the pecking order for the USMNT.

The Colorado Rapids look set for a busy off-season with Steffen expected to join Djordje Mihailovic at the club. Mihailovic will leave Dutch side AZ after just one year and could sign for the Rapids for a club-record transfer fee north of $3 million, according to .
