Chelsea have made a £37 million (€40m/$50m) bid to sign Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez as they look to strengthen before the transfer window closes.

The Blues are waiting to hear whether their offer has been accepted by the Spanish champions, according to Fabrizio Romano. The report states that Barcelona are not actively looking to sell Fermin, 22, and so a deal will depend on whether the midfielder wants to push for a move to Stamford Bridge.

Should Fermin want to leave Camp Nou, the Spain international faces a race against time to join Chelsea before the transfer window closes on September 1 at 7pm BST for Premier League clubs. Enzo Maresca's side were also linked with Xavi Simons but the Netherlands international has since joined Tottenham Hotspur in a £52 million (€60m/$70m) deal.
