Chelsea could do their former striker, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, a massive favour by gifting him a couple of their young talents for the remainder of the campaign.
The Blues are no strangers to the battles of the loan market and have used it more religiously than any other club over the past few seasons as they station players out across Europe. Several players have been multiple loanees by this point in their career and some might be about to make the short journey across London to see the rest of the season out at QPR as they look to gain further first-team experience.
Hasselbaink has largely struggled since arriving at Loftus Road, but Tony Fernandes, the QPR co-chairman, has given his public support for the manager and promised patience despite the shaky start.
The ex-Chelsea striker did a brilliant job as manager of Burton Albion to earn this opportunity in the Championship and is having to rebuild a club that has been in significant turmoil for several seasons.
Guus Hiddink has already shown that he is planning longer term, despite the fact he is leaving at the end of the season, and some of these potential loans could see these players make the leap to the Chelsea first-team next season…
Charlie Colkett
Colkett is a central midfield player with an eye for goal and the youngster has drawn the plaudits as he has progressed through Chelsea’s academy.
Now playing in the under-21s on a regular basis, Colkett is ready for more first-team exposure and would add energy to QPR’s midfield in the remainder of the campaign.
Jay DaSilva
DaSilva is very much a modern full-back. With his game focused largely on contributing in the final third, the youngster has great pace and can be used as a left winger if required.
Pace is a huge asset in the championship and DaSilva would add an extra dimension to the R’s left hand side.
Islam Feruz
Chelsea’s hugely successful youth cup sides have included Islam Feruz on a number of occasions and the forward has represented Scotland at several youth levels, too.
Don’t be fooled by his stature, as the striker packs a mean shot and the sort of acceleration that can leave defenders bemused.
Bertrand Traore
Traore has begun to work his way into the planning at Chelsea of late, but he would definitely benefit from a few more first-team games before the end of the season.
Not currently trusted with playing in important fixtures, the former Vitesse loanee has been restricted to appearances from the bench when the Blues are cruising but has had relative success.
Capable of playing as a central striker or from the wing, Traore’s Eredivisie experience would make the Championship a walk in the park..
Alex Davey
Davey was overlooked by Guus Hiddink when the Blues needed to call a centre-back up to the first-team squad for the PSG tie.
Jake Clarke-Salter was given the selection instead and Davey must be wondering how he can gain recognition. Usually a solid defender, Davey has the odd mistake in him and would benefit massively from being taken out of the Chelsea comfort bubble.
